Week Fifteen :(

This is the last week of the semester. To be frank, I will miss Bel 311 class. No more Bel after this, no more stressing about Bel 311 and no more Miss Zu :( I will miss the moment in Miss Zu class, even though there a tons of work, but yet that is what I'm going to miss

Today, we are doing the last activity for the semester. we did learnt about Infer. Infer is something that have a connection with Implied. Infer comes from the root word Inference which means we need to guess. Guessing the words that has been given because we don't know what is the meaning of the words.

So we did a activity which is called Scooby Doo. The game is about guessing. we are given clue which each of us are given a piece of card. any one of the clues is not in the card means that, that person is the killer and the thing he/she has used to killed that person.

Last class todayy. Last class with Miss Zu. Last class For BEL. We just go through past semester examination paper. Miss Zu did tell us the format for the final that we are going to take soon. We discuss a little bit about how we are going to write for the final. 

After finished discussing the past semester examination paper, we are having some port luck. Yeayyyyy ! :D As a celebration for the last class. Well, I'm quite touched to hear Miss Zu speach :') Thank you Miss, Thank you for everything ! May Allah Pays back all your kindness ! We gonna Miss You Miss Zu :)

Week Fourteen ^^

Movie timeeee ! Wehooooooooo :D We watch movie for today's class :D We watch the Taken movie, I never watch the movie before and the movie was so interesting. The movie was starring by Liam
Neeson, Maggie Grace and Famkee Janssen.

The movie is all about sacrifice of father to a daughter and human trafficking of prostitution. I was touched to watch the movie, and I nearly to shed a tears. How touched am I to see the love of a father to a daughter.

Week Thirteen :D

#1 (03/09/2012)

I was late to class today which is 30 minutes because I was just arrived from Kuala Lumpur :D Sorry Miss for coming late but yet, I didn't skip the class. hihi. As Miss said, 'better late than never' well, I am quite agree with that quote :D

For today's class, we learnt about the group discussion. Group discussion or also known as the speaking test is going to be held this week which are on Tuesday and Thursday. Only the selected groups will come to the class, and do the speaking test with Miss.

Miss Zu did some demonstration to show us how the speaking test will look like. Miss Zu, want us to get the idea, so that, we know how the speaking test is going on. Miss Zu choose a group to come in front, to demonstrate to us about the speaking test.

Miss Zu also, show us, how she is going to give mark to us during the speaking test based on our fluent to speak with no err errr, points and how you communicate in the group.

Today is my group turn to do the speaking test. Our test was started at 4.45 p.m. My group mate are Firdhaus, Aliah and Farhana Januri :) We got a topic about the flu pandemic such as H1N1. For me, the topic is quite hard and everyone did well, for those who feel it sucks, you can try again next time :) For me, I think my speaking test is not that good, well I'm not saying it's bad, it's just so-so. hmm

Week Twelve :)

Today, we have learnt about Argumentative essay. Miss Zu always do exercise on writing  essay with us because in examination, the writing part contribute the highest marks, I guess, by having the practice, it will help me a lot during the final examination soon. Although our term paper that we have wrote the different type of essay, we still need to learn all type of essay because during the final, we do not know, which type of essay that might come  out, so to be safe, we need to learn all type of essay, as it is also a part of our syllabus and also as our general information on how to write those type of essays.

Okay, let me explain a bit about argumentative essay that I have learnt :) first of all, when you want to write an argumentative essay, you need to have a stand. You need to have a strong reason for choosing the answer. Argumentative essay is about weather you agree or disagree with the topic given, think and think and think ! Once you got the answer you must have the reason for your answer :) well, writing argumentative essay is not that easy, you need to read a lot and have a lot of information about the topic given.

This is the question for our exercise during the class "Women are becoming bolder as well as aggressive and men are more sensitive. Agree or disagree with the statement. Support your opinion with reasons and examples." So, according to this topic I would like to say that, I disagree with the topic because as we know that, men are having the nature to become a leader, men got better visionaries as compared to women and men are much more flexible. This is why I agree that men are more bolder and aggressive as compared to women. 

Usually, Miss always divided us into a group to write the task given. But today, writing the argumentative essay is an individual work. Miss said, she wants to see, how we are going to write because usually, we only write for only one paragraph for one essay, but this time around, each person must come out with one essay.

We are having forum ! Yeayyyy. Today, we did an activity which we need to act like we are in a television  show named Step with Pride in a segment called Get It Burst!  where, there is a host and a movie star for a new movie that has been released in the cinema ! This activity is quite interesting as we can see, our classmate acting to be a movie a star. hihi.

We are divided into 4 groups, and every group are having different movie. As for my group, group 4, we are given a movie titled Happy Feet 2. All of my group members which are Naddy Cullen the director, Farhana Clarkson the producer, Alia Gomez as Pingulia and last but not least the famous actor in the whole world, who do not know, Brad Fiq the most success actor as Pinggan. All of my group member actually, never watch this movie, as we do not have smartphones to Google about this movie, we decided to come out with our own synopsis. Well our own synopsis is not that bad. Our Happy Feet 2 is telling about family relationship that has been broke off since they we're small and meet back together at other place when they are older. Me, Qistina Perry as the host of the show.

Week Eleven

#1 ( 13/08/2012)

Before we are going to celebrate Hari Raya, we need to make sure that our first draft of term paper are done because we need to hand in before the Hari Raya Break ! Farzana and I, completed the term paper as fast as we can because we can't wait to go back home to celebrate the Hari Rayaa. 

Basically, in this 2 hours class, we spent on editing the term paper. We need to fill in the form that was given by miss. In the form, there are a few questions which make it easier for you to check your term paper. Besides that, after done checking our own term paper, we need to check for our friend term paper, look for any error and give some comments before hand in to miss. 

After done with the editing part, we hand in the term paper with hopes that we can have a good marks. hihi

In today's class, we learnt about speaking test that will be take place right after the Hari Raya breakk :( what a very surprising because we are not given some time to prepare with our group member.

In BEL 311, the speaking test or also known as group discussion, is not included any point for the question. You need to have your own point and elaborate it by yourself not like Bel 120 and Bel260 where the point for the question are given which you just need to elaborate. In speaking test BEL 311 is not exactly like the previous one. So, I am quite scare if I'm lost during the discussion. I'm worried if I don't get any idea to answer the question. There is so much think that I'm thinking about the speaking test. I'm so nervous.  The marks for speaking test is given for the task fulfilment, languange and communication ability. I am in group 3 where my group mate are Aliah, Firdhaus and Farhana Januri :)

Week Ten !

#1 (06/08/2012)

Write-an-essay day ! Today, we learnt a second type of essay which is problem-solution essay. Like before, we are divided into  groups so, we are going to write an essay in a group, each one of the group member will write a paragraph for the essay. 

When we are writing the problem-solution essay, first thing first we need to identify the problem. As the type of the essay is the problem-solution essay, we must have a problem before writing the essay. Besides the problem , we also, need to have a solution for the problem that we have arise. 

We must know, where the problems come from, who is affected by the problem. For example, "In my opinion, the problem originated from... " . We must think about the future, what will be, if the problems can be solve or what are we going to do, if the problem it not resolve. We must have a solution for every circumstance that might happen in the future. Because, we don't know what is the solution, as it still do not happen yet. We need to discuss the extent of the problem as well. We need to state that if the problem is not dealt, what are the problem that might occur in the future. 

Here are some steps how to discus the situations :

• You need to introduce the solution
• Discuss who can get involved
• Discuss the cost and practically of the solution.

Miss Zu ask us to write an essay base on the video clip that she has shown to us which that video tells  "What would you do pretty girl stealing bite ?"

Today, we continue with our term paper after left it for quite sometimes. whoooh. Term paper seems so hard to finish it. 1000 words? I never write an essay until 1000 words, and I don't know what my essay will look like. Seriously, I'm not sure if I can write that long ! Too long :O

As we already have the outline, it is easier to write the development paragraph. which, we need to submit next week ! For the first step, miss ask us to write the introductory paragraph. We chose to have personal example, rhetorical question and definition to be included as the hook in the introductory paragraph. 

In the development paragraph, we need to have topic sentence, supporting detail 1, supporting detail 2 and supporting detail  3 as well as concluding statement. The development paragraph is not the same to the other type of essay. Different essay got different format. For compare and contrast the format to write the essay is just like I have stated. 

After, writing the essay step by step, I found it , it's not impossible for me to write an essay as long as 1000 words. Thank you miss for the guide :) I guess I can write better now . hihihi

We are having a debate ! For me, this activity is quite fun because I can see my classmate give cooperation with each other even though they are not agree with the topic given. 

As for me, my group is going to debate on "Is it true that men are easy to work with and more creative than women especially when it involves group work? " We are on the opposite side which we are not agree with the statement. 

This are the photos during the debate was going on, the situations are still can be manage. There is not fighting moment or any heart feeling. We are having the healthy debate :)

Week 9 :D

Hello readers ! We meet again :) This is the first class for the week ! Compare and contrast. That is what we learnt for todayyy. For me, compare and contrast is familiar for me, as compare and contrast is the type of essay that Farzana and I going to write for our term paper :) Basically, we know the basics, on how to write and the pattern of the essay . 

 The above diagram or also known as the Venn Diagram is the example of diagram that is needed when we are writing the compare and contrast essay. It will make our work easier to write the essay as  we have the idea on what to write. 

Next, we need to choose to equal item. As the example above, both are fruits. We cannot compare and contrast between two different things for example, fruits with animal clearly, we cannot compare and contrast between that two because both do not have similarities.

We are divided into a few groups, and are given a task to write an essay based on a videoclip about tadaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

The two stars from the famous television series, Desperate Housewives! Bree  Van De Kamp and Lynnette .

We need to compare and contrast between the two actress that act a different character but yet, still have the similarities in both character.

The first ever FORUM that was held. As usual, we are divided again into a few groups. We need to act like we are in the talk show. So I have created a name for the  show which is The Inspiration Talk Show :) and I am very lucky to have a very special guest with me in the studio which we are having Hashimah as the consumer, Proffesor Farhana Binti Ahmad Januri as lecutrer from the University Malaya and last but not least is, Dato' Dr. Siti Syamimi Binti Rashid as the board of director of Alam Sekitar Associations. We are very blessed to have a topic How To Reduce The Uses Of Plastic Bag In Shopping Complex. Me, myself as the host of the Inspiration Talk Show :)  

 From my point of view, my group did a great job even though we are not prepare very well, but at least, we enjoy while the talk show is take place. At first, I am not really happy, because we are the first group, but after finished it, I feel Aaaaahhhh, released. hihi and can watch others enjoyably :D

The last class of the week ! Whooorayyyy :D We learnt on how to find main ideas in passage . Finding the main ideas in passage is going to come out in final examination. Even though we are focusing on the term paper, yet we cannot forget the final examination. Final examination carry lots of marks as compared to the term paper. 

We must know the thought that is present from the beginning to the end. It means that, we must know what is actually the writer wants to convey their readers. If the readers get wrong idea of what the wanted trying to say, it means that the writer do not understand what is the essay is all about. 

Besides that, in an essay, there are also implied main idea. Which implied main idea is the main idea that have been hidden. So readers need to read the essay carefully and repeatedly in order to understand the essay. 

Below are how to find the main ideas in the essay :

• Identify the subject/topic
• What is the essay is all about
• read the complete sentence .

Week Seven

Miss Zu today teach us on how to do  the introductory paragraph. The introductory paragraph is the most important paragraph in essay. If we have a great introductory paragraph, you will attract the readers to read further your essay. For me, introductory paragraph is the most important thing in my essay in order to attract Miss Zu to read more and make her feel excited to read our essay. 

The purpose of the introductory paragraph is like what I have said just know is to get reader's attention. For sure, every writer wanted their essay to read. Thus to make the essay interesting, it must start from the beginning og the essay. Next, the purpose of introductory paragraph is to set tone for the rest of the essay. Whether we want the essay to be a sad-type of essay or happy-type essay. 

Some parts of the introductory paragraphs are :

• The hook- designed to grab attention immediately and give some topic indication about the essay's topic.
• The transition- moves the reader from the hook to the driving force of the essay.
• The thesis statement- makes the contract with the reader about what will discussed without a transparent announcement.

There are 8 types of hook in the introductory paragraph :

1. Personal example. For example personal observations form someone.
2. Quotations. Must be relevant to content of quote.
3. Facts or statistic. Must be unusual. Must also be from a credible source.
4. Rhetorical question. Question that need to be thought.
5. Current event. Must be the recent one
6. Contrast to the thesis statement/ turnabout.
7. Definition. Write something from general to specific.
8. Funnel.

We have to make sure, during writing the introductory paragraph, we need to have one of these hook in the introductory part in order to hook the readers to read our essay :)

For our term paper, we need to have three hook in the introductory part. Me and Farzana choose to have personal example, rhetorical question and definition as our hook for our essay.

The last class of the week, we learnt about the function and the techniques to write the conclusion. Conclusion is the last part of the essay where we conclude what has been written for pages in a paragraph. It's not easy to conclude everything that we have wrote for pages in a paragraph. Thus, that's why we need to know the techniques as well as the function of the conclusion paragraph. 

Below, are some questions that might help you to make the conclusion of the essay :

•  what is the significance of your findings?
• What are the implications of your conclusions for this topic and for the broader field?
• Are their any limitations to your approach?
• Are there any other factors of relevance that impact upon the topic but fell outside the scope of the essay?
• Are their any suggestions you can make in terms of future research?

Week 6 ^^

Hi! We meet again readers :D Today, we learn 2 things first how to make a thesis statement and   how to make a outline for the essay. 

Thesis statement is a statement that need to stated in the introductory paragraph. Thesis statement will show your significant of the title of the essay. Thesis statement is also important because thesis statement will create the story line. Besides that, thesis statement must answer the question that everyone have on their mind. It must be stated clearly in order to avoid misunderstanding about what the essay is all about and what the readers dispute about the essay. Usually, there is only one sentence for the thesis statement and stated at the end of the introductory paragraph.

Next is, outline ! We learnt on how to make an outline. Outline is part of the mark in the making of the term paper which outline carry 5% from the 30% overall marks from the term paper. In outline, we must included everything that is important for example, our thesis statement, everything that we  have summarised and paraphrase and quotations. 

We need to complete our term paper by tomorrow because Miss Zu wanted to check before hand in to her :)

Today we learn about Transition words. Transition words are words that is used to help to connect the essay smoothly and nicely. For example, besides, next, as well as and etc. There are many transition words can be used to connect the sentence as appropriate.

After 2 days, finally, Miss Zu came to the class with the bright smile ! :) Miss Zu said that she feels better then before that's why she came today ! Alhamdullilah . 

In today's class we learn about the conceptual clues. We are divided into 6 groups . We played a game which we need to collect marks for every correct answer for our group. We need to discuss with our group to make sure that our group get the highest score. Basically,  conceptual clues is a synonyms, you can determine by reading the text . For example, a word that you don't understand , but you can know the meaning by reading the text . During the game was played we cannot open up the dictionary. Conceptual clues is important and being used during the final examination.

One Month

Hi everyone ! :D 

Heyyy , it has been a month we've learn BEL 311 . Alhamdullilah everything goes well :)

As I told you before that , me and Farzana are the last group which is going to present for our term paper right ? Alhamdullilah :D Everything went well , I was so happy to know that Miss Zu had agreed with our topic :) I was overjoyed to hear what Miss Zu had said "For now , I think you guys are great" (something like this. but I don't really remember, what I remember is just GREAT. hihi) OMG , who is not happy to hear that after all the rejection we got right ? Alhamdullilah ! There's nothing else I can say , I need to do more reading for our topic to ensure that , we can write a good essay for our term paper soon . Actually, we can start slowly with our term paper now, I'm afraid that we don't have enough time since there are so many assignments that we are having now :/ 

After we have presented all of our information for our term paper, Miss Zu continue on what she had thought us last week which was Paraphrasing , Quote, and Summarising . But for this class, she is focusing on SUMMARISING . 

Comprehension :

• To reduce information to essential idea in order to understand and learn .

                    I- Identifying supporting details

                   D- Disregard unimportant information

                   A- Analyze redundant information

                   S- Simplify, categorized, and label important information

     In the second class , we have been thought on how to determine which one is FACT and which one is OPINION . Actually, this Facts and Opinions , Miss Dia already thought us on BEL 260 last semester , but since most of us forget about it , Miss Zu again need to do a recap for us. It is important to determine which one is fact and which one is opinion because when we write our term paper , we need to know is it opinion or fact. Fact is more reliable than opinion . Opinion is based on someone's perception. so not everyone have the same perception as the other isn't it ? 

           

     In order to ensure that we really understand what is opinion and what is fact, Miss Zu did an activity , which we have to be a promoter . We need to promote the given item , for our group , we are given Gervenne Clear White compaq powder . We need to promote the item base on facts and opinions towards the product . 

Basically, it is quite enjoying besides we can learn something from the activity :)

Frankly speaking, I'm scared with Miss Zu :( and every time I entered the BEL class, my heart skips a bit T.T I think it  happens when , On the first day class of the week , me, Farzana , Syieda and Fatin came late to the class,  which was 15 mins late , Miss Zu already in the lab waited for us , I know it's my fault Miss Zu , I'm deeply sorry . Since we came late, I guess Miss Zu mad at us , even though she is not showing it on her face, but I can feel it . She also get mad at me and Farzana about the topic for the term paper. Seriously, I get stresses just to have the topic for this term paper because all of them were rejected :( Once again , we changed the topic from Advanced education to Breast cancer among man to Water birth. Alhamdullilah , Miss Zu accepted .

After we had the topic , we did the research more on it and we need to print it out to in order support our topic . Me and Farzana , did our best to find out about Water birth because finally , after so many rejection happened , our topic is already accepted. Everyone are going to present in front of the class, everything that we have searched about our topic . So, for the whole class, we only discuss about our term paper topic.

So for the third class, we still continued discussing about the topic for term paper, Sadly, we need to change again the topic :( Seriously, it makes me sad because until now, Farzana and I still haven't get any topic for our term paper yet . This is because in the class, no one did compare and contrast essay yet. So, as the last group that is going to present on the following class, we are the one who need to change and do the compare and contrast essay :( why me ? why we? :(

Assalamualaikum W.B.T everyone !

As always , the first class of the week is in the computer lab :) Yeayyy ! So we need to sit at the same place as the previous class and need to take care of the computer at the desk . We need to take the responsibility if anything happen to the computer. Sounds scary right ? well , if you follow what the lecturer said, there will be nothing going to happen. simple is it ? 
So, in the first class of the week , Miss Zu did a recap on grammar. Well, to be honest, I'm not good at grammar but I'm still working on it . I guess, it has been years until now for me to learn grammar, but yet,  I still weak on it :( So, for right now, what I understand about grammar is that, in grammar, we have 3 conditions which are in the past, present and future.
In past, we can divide into 4.They are simple past, past continuous, past perfect and past perfect continuous. below are some simple explanation :-


Simple past                  : add 'ed' to regular words, change the word to the new word for                   
                                     irregular word.
Past continuous             : was is for singular and were for plural.
Past perfect                 : Had
Past perfect continuous : Had + Been + verb (ing) 


Next condition is something that is going to happen in the present . In present , we can further divided into 4  conditions which present simple, present continuous, present perfect, and present perfect continuous.


Present simple                   : in singular words add 'S' and with NO 'S' to plural words .
Present continuous             : is to the singular words and are to the plural words
Present perfect                 : has/have + past participle.
Present perfect continuous : Has/have + been + verb + ing 


Last but not least is future. In future can be 2 conditions , first , will + base form and second is , going to + base form .


At the end of the class, Miss Zu ask us to find one current issue for our topic for term paper :)

In this class, we were informed that the third class which was on 21st June 2012 is going to be cancel  because Miss Zu is having a seminar * deep inside my heart HOOORAYYYY ! but I just pretend like I don't mind . Muehehehe :P

We need to tell Miss Zu what are we going to write for our term paper soon . So , I have suggest a few topics which is a current one but mostly it was rejected by Miss Zu . The topics that I've suggested are Child abuse, Animal abuse and Amusement park. Miss Zu ask me and Farzana to find another topic because she don't really agree about our topics. It's okay , and now I have an idea what to write about but I'm not sure if Miss Zu is going to agree with or not, so this is my topic Advance Technology :D hopefully Miss Zu will agree . Farzana and I chose this topic because we think that this is the current issue that is happening in 2012 well , you know about Samsung and Apple ? they are both compete with each other with the technology that we never think about.

This is my first ever post and I never have Blogspot account before. As I have been asked by my BEL 311 lecturer Miss Zuraidah Binti Sumery to have a Blogspot account as part of our learning process , so yeahhh ! here I am :D

First class of the week (11/06/2012)

In the first class of BEL, we did nothing else accept listened to what Miss Zu said about our course. All about the study plan for this semester . Honestly , I quite scared to this course (BEL311) as I listened to Miss Zu explanation it is harder than Bel 260 and Bel 120 . I hope that , Miss Zu will guide me well , InsyaAllah .

Second class of the week (12/06/2012)

The second class is quite fun because we need to introduce to Miss Zu and to all of JBM 111 3D member about the partner that we have chose in the class. For me , this is interesting part ever because , after we've been together for almost a year, now we can see , do my classmates know me well or not. And luckily , there are people know me well .And that person is Megat, He knows about me . he knows that I love to go back home whenever I have nothing to do at Segamat . hihi. Thank you everyone who raised up hands to guess the lies about me and Farzana :) it shows how much you guys know about your classmates and much appreciated for that . 

Third class of the week (14/06/2012)

This is the last class of the first week. Actually this class has been changed from night to evening . Thank you Miss Zu for changing the night class :) In the third class, we continue with the last class activity to those who absent in the previous class (12/06/2012) before the activity started,we have been reminded that if we do not come to the class we must have a strong evidence such as MC slip . After finished the activity , we played another game that is called That's Freaking which we have to wrote in a piece of paper about you that nobody knows. After you have wrote , you need to fold the paper into a spaceship and flew the paper to the whole class. the lucky person will have your paper and read out loud in front of the class and you need to guess who it is. For this second game, the one who guess that is me was Afiq . Thank you ! :D  And yeahhh , everyone is enjoying themselves. Know we knew a little bit about everyone in our class secrets. We laughed out loud cause it is so funny and ended the class with joy.

Hopefully , in the next class, we can do many interesting activities again :)
